There's a few annual events that is happening in the PENAMA province, that includes the Nagol ceremony on Pentecost, which takes place during the yam harvesting season, which is from April through to May. On Ambae, Independences day is celebrated with a week long festival in all the villages, it begins on July 24th. Another event is the 'Bali Hai Cultural Festival' which is usually held in the north western part of Ambae. Performers wear only custom attire. The seven (7) day festival is to encourage a sense of cultural identity and pride in teh youth of ambae.
